Kristen Signs On as the New Face of Balenciaga Fragrance

 

Balenciaga will soon have its own place in the Twilight. The brand has signed actress Kristen Stewart as the face of the newest Balenciaga fragrance for women. 

Stewart, best known for her role as Bella Swan in the blockbuster movie saga, will represent a to-be-announced scent which is expected to be launched this fall. 

“Balenciaga has always stood out to me,” Stewart told WWD on Thursday. “Even when I first began to consider fashion and admittedly rarely knew the brand I was wearing, I always recognized and loved Balenciaga. It feels full circle to be involved with something that spoke to me then and of course continues to excite me now. The brand is just cool. That’s the way it is. I feel drawn to it. It provokes on a number of levels. It isn’t afraid or contrived. It hits a very cool balance, always. Always pretty undeniable.”

Balenciaga creative director Nicolas Ghesquière called Stewart the muse for the new scent. “Kristen embodies the modernity of the new Balenciaga fragrance with her unique sensibility and intelligence,” said Ghesquière. “From her early appearance in ‘Panic Room’ to her independent choice of ‘Welcome to the Rileys,’ I’ve always sensed her progressive character. In 2006, I invited her to appear in a project shot by Bruce Weber. Since then, I’ve always wished to collaborate with her further, knowing that she shares the radical spirit of Balenciaga.”

Added Isabelle Guichot, chief executive officer of Balenciaga: “Kristen is the perfect choice as she embodies Nicolas Ghesquière’s unique vision for the second chapter in our fragrance history.”

Charlotte Gainsbourg remains the face of Balenciaga Paris, the first scent from the house, which was launched in 2010.

“Kristen stood out as an evident choice for this new fragrance,” added Catherine Walsh, senior vice president of American fragrances for Coty Prestige, a division of Coty Inc. “She has a unique sense of style, quite original and chic in the way she mixes fashion elements. Her elegant modernity and innate rebel style perfectly match with the spirit of Balenciaga.”

Stewart noted that after a busy 2011, she’s taking a bit of time to relax. “My horizon is clear as of now (except for this!) in terms of new projects, which feels incredible,” she said. “I have finished three films I can’t wait to see come to fruition this year, ‘On The Road,’ ‘Snow White and the Huntsman,’ and ‘Breaking Dawn 2.’”

Shoe Designer Brian Atwood Mentions Kristen

Kristen Stewart is a huge fan of your platform designs. Earlier this month, she wore a pair of your Marcella heels to her Hollywood Walk of Fame handprint ceremony and she was photographed swapping them out for a pair of checkered Vans. What was going on there?

She had to take them off. She didn’t want to ruin them, because they were velvet.

Ohhh, we’re glad you cleared that up. So it wasn’t because the shoes were uncomfortable?

No, no, no. Not at all. She didn’t want to ruin the velvet. I thought she would have gone barefoot, but I guess they had to be in shoes. She didn’t want to put cement feet [in the heels].

Kristen Talks Fashion and ‘Snow White and The Huntsman’ At Mulberry Show

NOW WHITE, OR BLACK?:

“I know everyone thinks I wear black all the time, but I really do love vibrant colors,” Kristen Stewart of the “Twilight” series said after taking in Mulberry’s bright show Sunday morning at Claridge’s. There were ice cream vans stationed outside the hotel and a sea of giraffe, zebra and tiger balloons bobbing in the lobby to fit the collection’s seaside resort theme. The show drew a starry crowd, including Kate Moss — clad head-to-toe in Mulberry denim — Romola Garai, Hayley Atwell and Harley Viera-Newton.

Stewart, in London until November shooting “Snow White and the Huntsman,” noted her take on Snow White is far from the cutesy Disney version. “It’s more based on the original telling of it, which is fairly dark…it says a lot of great things about vanity and image and strength and standing up for what’s right,” she said, describing the title role as a Joan of Arc type.

Gather:  Cynthia Steffe's Fall 2011 Fashion Week show last Sunday saw models sauntering down the runway with crimson-stained lips, pale porcelain skin and long, dark manes (all characteristic of Bella!). Although creative director of Cynthia Steffe, Shaun Kearney, wouldn't directly admit to channeling inspiration from Kristen Stewart and the blockbuster movie saga, he confessed that the show "did strike a mysterious mood similar to Twilight."

Kristen Stewart Run(a)way Show Turns up in NYC

Kristen Stewart's look in "The Runaways" has inspired designer Gary Graham to creative excellence, which he presented on New York Fashion Week. Graham on the catwalk showed the same looks like Kristen Stewart in her film "The Runaways" in which she played singer Joan Jett. Designer Gary Graham said in an interview after the show what inspired him: "Todd Oldham has written a book on Joan Jett. In order to do your own thing you have to learn from others as an example, but put your own stamp on it". Obviously he had the right inspiration to make his own "Run (a) way" show à la Kristen Stewart.
