New/Old Pictures of Rob Plus Twilight Co-Star Ayanna Berkshire Talks About Rob & Kristen

loading

Ayanna Berkshire played Cora in Twilight

The scene between you and Kristen and Billy is pretty long. What was it like filming with Kristen? Were you aware of her as an actress before this movie?

Ayanna Berkshire: I was aware of Kristen from Panic Room and she’d been working since such a young age, it was great to talk with her about filmmakers, acting and our mutual acting influences while we were between shots.

It was really interesting filming with Kristen, because she was such a quiet and thoughtful actress. She was very aware of what was happening around her on set, but then she could seamlessly drop into the scene and be fully engaged. She cares a great deal about what she’s creating as an artist and that was really cool to see in her. At the time, she was still 17 (she turned 18 on set, a big deal because it meant that she could work full days and not have to end early due to child labor laws) and she had been around for a long time already. I was impressed because she came across as a very seasoned and extremely professional actress.

Your scene in the movie did not involve Robert Pattinson, but did you see him on set at all during the filming of the movie? Were you familiar with him before this movie?

AyannaBerkshire: I was aware of Robert from Harry Potter: Goblet of Fire and from a small role in Vanity Fair. I met him on set at lunch one day, because he was shooting another scene right after us and we all ended up having lunch togetherHe was funny, charming and incredibly friendly, really very normal, which comes as no surprise.

Inside story: Two days after that lunch I was back to work at my part time job, I worked in an eyeglass shop in Portland named Visage Eyewear. While I was there, an absolutely adorable British couple came in. We INSTANTLY bonded and I ended up talking with them for close to two hours. About an hour in, I finally asked what brought them to Portland and they told me that they were visiting their son, who was working in town. I asked them what he did for work and they told me he was an actor! “REALLY”, I said. (I get really excited for fellow actors, especially since I know every last one in town), “I’m an actor too!! What’s his name? Is he working on anything at the moment?” That’s when they both got a little quiet, “Oh, he’s working on a movie here…” I took a look at both of them again, took in their accents and it suddenly dawned on me. “Is your son Rob?” I asked. They both got this wide-eyed look on their face like they weren’t sure if they should say yes or no. “I JUST worked with him two days ago!” I said, “I loved him, what a great guy!” They both seemed completely relieved that they could tell their secret without having to say anything. After that, we had an even better time and if I remember correctly, they even brought me ice cream from the ice cream shop across the street. For the record, Robert Pattinson has awesome parents!

During the Wrap party for Twilight, a friend of mine (he played one of the frat boys), Rob and I were all standing around talking. I wanted to do an impromptu photo shoot, where either I was about to bite Rob, or vice versa… it ended in a total fail as neither one of us knew who was supposed to bite who. I hope I’ll be forgiven for sharing this less than flattering pic.*

PP: Did you have any idea, being in the first of a five movie series, that Twilight would become so big and that Robert Pattinson would go on to become as famous as he did?

AB: I think that the success of the movies came as a surprise to everyone. I’d had an idea that they were going to be huge just because EVERYONE seemed to be reading the books!

I think that anyone who played the role of Edward was going to experience mega fandom. Edward, of all the characters was the most untouchable, the most mysterious and the sexiest. To watch that type of character brought to real life by an actor (especially an actor like Robert who is fun, approachable and handsome, but who was still sort of a mystery himself), it becomes this instant gratification. The character was written with such passion that as a reader, you want that passion for yourself. It also didn’t hurt that Robert was coming from Harry Potter and had a built in audience who were already excited to see him in something new.

Charlize Theron Talks About SWATH & Mentions Kristen

With movies like Snow White and The Hunstman and Prometheus, how thick is the contract that says 'You must never speak of this!'
It's not that bad. Maybe I perpetuate it myself. There is a part of me that wants to go "Just hang on guys. All in good time" In both films there's a nice element of surprise. Obviously. They're both in genres that you want to do something unusual with. I haven't seen the films. Everyone is editing and figuring it out. I don't mean to be too secretive about it but I know Ridley has been really cool and saying 'We love the genre and there's not a lot you can say without spoiling the film.' Everyone is kind of doing that.  I dunno.
The Snow White trailer is so great. As trailers go.
Thank you. I thought it was a pretty bad-ass trailer.
And it's totally you... 'The Charlize Show!'
Oh god, no! It's SO not. I started shooting the film so there was more footage of me. But then Kristen took over. That's the only reason it was like that. She's amazing in the film.
Would you want to play a villain again? Was that fun?
I don't know. Like I said to you before I have never walked around with a specific charater I wanted to play. In a way I've kind of played three villains back to back. But they're such different people. I've explored different things with all three.
I just want to tell good stories. That's truly all I want to do. I don't need to be the lead in them. I just want to be a part of something that I would want to go see in theaters. I don't know what that's going to be next.

Carolina Herrera Talks About Kristen On Wearing The 'Breaking Dawn' Wedding Dress

“We did three fittings. When she initially put on the dress and looked over her shoulder into the mirror, she was very moved,” Herrera tells the mag, on stands Wednesday. “In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film but instead a bride, and a happy one at that.”

The dress seen in the sketch (left) is what the designer calls a “union between Stephenie [Meyer's] description in the book and the Herrera bridal aesthetic” — something she has been perfecting for 25 years.

“I took into consideration the character of Bella and Kristen’s portrayal of her, and what this fantasy character would choose to wear for the most important day of her life,” she explains of the masterpiece, which retails for $35,000. “It’s made of a crepe satin with two inserts on the front and beautiful silk thread topstitching. The neckline is a slight V, just enough to see the collarbones. The back is oval-shaped, with aChantilly lace border veiled in tulle. It’s very romantic, and when all the details come together, it creates a vision specific to Bella’s style and personality.”

On The Road for Kerouac (OTR4K) - Reinvent the scroll

"This project is a tribute to American author Jack Kerouac for his 90.
It’s an original idea of a French fan of Kerouac, but we hope that the tribute will be spread all over the world!
On The Road 4 Kerouac was born of a double desire: paying a tribute to Jack Kerouac for the 90 years he would been in March 12, 2012 and making this author rediscovered to the public, through the film On The Road for example.

The first form of the project, which is the tribute to Kerouac, comes in the form of a continuous scroll of paper as the original manuscript of On The RoadIt will contain all the tributes / testimonials of those who would have participated. The goal is to reach the same length as the original manuscript, that is to say, about 37 meters!

In the end, the roll will be sent to The Beat Museum in San Francisco, a unique place that brings together everything related to Kerouac and the Beat Generation.

The second form of the project is making Kerouac rediscovered to the public. We are currently asking libraries, concert halls, theaters, if we can display a poster with Jack Kerouac and his work, then leave a box-letter so that people can make a tribute. Partnering with libraries to circulate On the Road books is also under way.

Finally, the project also aims to promote the release of the On The Road movie, a much anticipated event for all avid readers of Kerouac, and which is in itself a great way to introduce the novel to the public.

The project has an international vocation. Indeed, Jack Kerouac is known worldwide, and we hope that a maximum of different countries will participate. The scroll will be written in English and French, both languages spoken by Kerouac."

Kristen Calls Lu Anne Henderson the "Necessary Estrogen" in 'On The Road'

loading

In his latest book, Gerald Nicosia has unlocked the dynamic of Jack Kerouac and Neal Cassady, and not a moment too soon. Nicosia, the author of “Memory Babe,” the definitive Jack Kerouac book, was an advisor to the “On The Road” movie due to be premiered in May at the Cannes Film Festival. “On The Road,” published in 1951, was of course, the book that made Kerouac famous. It was inspired by Jack London’s famed book, “The Road,” published in 1907.

Nicosia’s new book is “One And Only: The Untold Story of On The Road.”
Its genesis was on the set of "On The Road," when he was hired to teach the actors what beatnik life was all about.

“The new film is more from the viewpoint of Lu Anne, Cassady’s first wife. That is because Nicosia as the preeminent Kerouac scholar was hired as an advisor for “On The Road.” When he played the tapes for actress Kristen Stewart, both he and the actress had some major revelations.

Stewart plays Marylou, who was 15 when she met Cassady. Marylou was a sweet 16 when they married, discounted as the stunning 16-year-old blond bimbo who Kerouac and Cassady shared, but otherwise was of little account. “One And Only: The Untold Story of On The Road” strongly disputes that account, and portrays Lu Anne as as the glue that bound these two powerful characters. She molded their relationship, and thus was a major catalyst of American literature…

To be sure, a lot of serendipity was involved in how the story unfolded. Nicosiadecided to play the interview for Stewart during a beat boot camp “On The Road” director Walter Salles set up in Montreal in the summer of 2010. Nicosia had recorded the hours-long interview with Lu Anne in 1978. For Stewart, she was looking for the rhythm of Lu Anne’s language. For Nicosia, he realized that he had not really understood what Lu Anne was saying when he first recorded the interview…”

Rolfe asked Nicosia to try and make of it what he could.

“What we now know is that the dynamic duo of Kerouac and Cassady was actually a trio: Neal, Lu Anne, and Jack,” he replied. ”It was always assumed that these two guys, cultural outlaws, a kind of modern-day Butch Cassady and Sundance Kid, just magically found each other, combined forces, and started the Beat Generation.”

“What we now know, thanks to Lu Anne’s testimony, is that both these guys were enormously insecure and vulnerable, that they were very different (though both were misfits in post-World War II America), and that neither one liked or trusted the other when they met.

“It took the depth and insight of a woman’s love, Lu Anne’s, to allow them to see enough in each other’s character, and in each other’s heart, to begin to form the friendship that changed contemporary AmericaWithout Lu Anne–the “necessary estrogen,” as Kristen Stewart put it–the chemical reaction, the new and potent compound of Kerouac-Cassady, simply wouldn’t have happened or existed.”

Kristen Talks About Dakota (Cosmopolitan Mag)

loading Cosmopolitan Mag - February 2012 (Dakota Fanning on cover)

Stewart, who became Dakota's friend during filming, says that Dakota's determination was obvious. "We had a few scenes that were crazy intimidating and maybe once or twice, she was like 'Okay, I have a butterfly in my stomach.' Meanwhile, I'm hyperventilating! Sometimes I give her sh*t for being so on the ball."
