New Kristen Interview with "Blick" (Switzerland)

-Take it with a huge grain of salt, this is the biggest Swiss tabloid and not quite trustful-

Oscar winner Arthur Cohn forewarned me: "She's an excellent actress and brilliant, but very shy." He's speaking of Kristen Stewart. He has to know it, after all he discovered her as a young girl. Meanwhile she's become a world star thanks to "Twilight". But the fame hasn't changed her personally. At the meeting it turns out that Arthur prepared me appropriately for meeting Kristen. It fits completely: She's not the one who simply bubbles away, answers no question till she's weighed the words [in German: till it (the question) passed the gold balance test]. Before she opens her mouth, the brain has to give the "Okay" first.
To her "I don't like to be a star"-image the Chanel dress and the stilettos with the golden heels and the platform soles don't really fit. A confession to the show business: "I will be comfortable in a certain hoodie of mine no matter what mood I am in. ... And I need pockets, 'cause if I carried a bag, I'd lose it purposely."

For a shy being you go really hard in the sex scenes in Breaking Dawn. The word is that some r-rated scenes were cut.
It wasn't that bad. Indeed there was only a small circle of people admitted when Rob and me were filmed in bed. But we didn't do anything what would be r-rated.

The sex with Rob was simulated. Did you still feel nervous to do "it" in front of the camera?
Honestly, at the beginning I felt really strange. But I don't belong to those people who need a drink before such scenes. At the end it's a job you're doing. And besides, I don't drink while working.

On the other hand, your fans will be needing a sip to calm down when your Twilight-baby is born. Will you tell us one secret: Does Bella die at birth?
I'm not quite sure. Her heart stops beating, but her soul is still in her.

Religious spectators could feel sensitive about the resurrection in the style of Twilight.
I have no idea what the church says to this.

One can well imagine that the audience is shocked about your physical appearance in the birth scene: "My god, Kristen's appearance is only skin and bones!" How much weight did you have to lose for this scene?
Not one gram. Even there would have been the time to put me on a diet, I wouldn't have made it to be all skin and bones as Bella. Besides it would have been too dangerous.

How was this dead body look then realised at all?
A second, bony face was painted on me. When I looked into the mirror I was frightened at myself.

How were you given the to a skeleton reduced body?
That was not my body, which had got Bella's baby, that was a puppet. I was lying underneath it on a table and had my face and arms stuck through the corresponding holes. That was a torture. I had bruises everywhere.

Yet one doesn't even dare to ask if the film awoke your thoughts of an own child.
If it doesn't have to be a vampire baby, I can very well imagine to become a mother.

When we're already speaking of it: Is Mama Stewart actually a Twilight fan, too?
She likes the films. At least she claims that. But I'm not quite sure. I doubt that Mum would have the nerve to admit to me that she doesn't like Twilight.

Which mother doesn't like to see her daughter with a handsome young man walking down the aisle? Have you chosen the Twilight wedding dress by yourself?
On the contrary. When I was sent to the first fitting I was taken by complete surprise: "Why a wedding dress? Oh sure, that's what you're wearing at such occasions." Personally, such things are not very important to me. I've never been the girl who's picturing her wedding dress.

They say that the priest, who marries you in the film, was a real one. Therefore you would be practically married anyway.
A strange thing. Not only was the priest a real one, he also addressed Rob and me with our real names in the scene.

But could you also cook for your husband?
Yes, as long as he likes soup. I'm great in cooking soups. I've learnt it from my Dad.

What soup does Robert Pattinson like the most?
Tortilla soup.

You turned 21 on April 9th...
...coincidentally on the last day of shooting Breaking Dawn. Man, that was a party.

Has something changed for you?
No kidding, I actually feel older. It's become clear to me that many incertitudes I suffered from in the past, disappeared.

Also the incertitude of walking down the red carpet in headspinning high heels?
Not that one. Again and again I'm proud of me when I reached the end without falling flat on my face.

Vampires don't sleep. But what about you? Do you crawl away into your bed when you feel depressed?
I'm not the type for that. I'd be so frightened of waking up depressed so that this would haunt my sleep.

Swiss National TV Reviews "Welcome To The Rileys"

Here are some snippets from the video (they mainly speak about the plot):

"From a totally new perspective we get to know the wispy Bella from the vampire series 'Twilight' in the film 'Welcome To The Rileys'. Half-naked and debauched she appears in the second film by Jake Scott, son of director Ridley Scott. Is he as talented as his father? We say: Yes he is."

"'Welcome To The Rileys' is a wonderfully unsentimental drama."

Swiss Newspapers Review "Welcome To The Rileys"

A damaged middle-aged man and a young prostitute set up house together.

Since their daughter died 8 years ago, Doug and Lois' marriage has been on the rocks. In New Orleans for a convention, Doug meets a young stripper that reminds him of his dead child and decides to stay to take of her, hoping he can help her find a way out of prostitution. Slowly these two broken souls form a relationship...

Although saddled with a predictable plot, the second film by Jake Scott, son of Ridley Scott, is nevertheless sensitive and moving, with some fine acting by stars James Gandolfini , Kristen Stewart and Melissa Leo.

An outsider is rehearsing the moving standstill

Despair, sorrow, death: Rarely someone has produced this as calm as Jake Scott with "Welcome To The Rileys".

It begins with a burning car. And a man lighting a cigarette in the dark, while others celebrate in the background. Whoever has expected a feel good movie, is realizing by now that "Welcome To The Rileys" is not an invitation, but rather a warning.
Director Jake Scott, son of master director Ridley Scott ("Alien," "Gladiator"), proves in his second film a feeling for outsider topics, which were a few years ago common in the American art-house cinemas but in recent times rare.

Tears, Pills, Affairs

Doug Riley (James Gandolfini, "The Sopranos") is a heavyweight mid-fifty and co-owner of a hardware store, has an affair with a dark-skinned waitress and goes in the garage to cry.
His wife Lois (Melissa Leo) has isolated herself from the outer world, and seeks her salvation in pills. The reason for this comes out only when Doug sets out for a business trip.

From the tombstone to the strip bar

What follows, could amount to nothing more than a classical tears-weeper-dramaturgy. But Ken Dixon's screenplay affords surprises which lift "Welcome To The Rileys" way above the average.

When Doug, whose wife has already bought a grave stone for him, arrives in New Orleans, he discovers the very young Mallory (Kristen Stewart, "Twilight") at a strip shed.
She reminds him so much of his deceased daughter, so he stays to look after her. It's this courage to standstill, which distinguishes "Welcome To The Rileys".

The characters will be granted the opportunity to try something - no guarantee that it will work. That makes Doug, Mallory and Lois in their loneliness so complex. And this film, despite some clichéd moments, so lovable.

"Welcome To The Rileys" has hit the Swiss-German Theatres last Thursday. Check the trailer, more reviews and your screenings here.
